I decided to keep a travel blog for this trip and hope to update a lot! I really hoped that I would have complimentary internet here in Philadelphia but we get charged! $10 for 24 hours, it’s not a bad deal but unfortunately it’s for an actual 24 hour period…so I lose it in exactly 24 hours and don’t get it for ACTUALLY 24 hours. Sucks huh? I did see a pretty nice internet station in the lobby so I will check that out later.
Well, first of all, let’s talk about the flights. Oh boy, I didn’t prepare myself for an over 11 hour trip over. I had one layover in LA, both flights were over 5 hours long. I was on an United flight over from Hawaii to LA. It feels pretty cramped in United, but it was nice that they offered free drinks. They also offered snack packs for sale. I brought on my own Burger King for dinner (pre-airport run for sho!). At first I thought I had my aisle to myself (I sat in a two seater aisle) but then a woman showed up literally last minute. She turned out to be super nice and we had some nice conversations! J
Once I got to LAX, I thought I had some time to get breakfast for my next flight but I didn’t. L I really had to rush to my next flight also because I needed to take a shuttle to the right terminal. US Airways was my next airline, I was seated in the aisle but with two other men. There seemed to be more legroom in this airline, and the guy next to me kept doing funny things to me. At one point, he pulled my seat down by accident…and something else! All funny though so I never got mad. Here’s what got me! US Airways charged for drinks! I couldn’t believe it! They also had mini meals which I was happy about…but they ran out of sandwiches so I had to get cheese and, ham and crackers. A can of soda cost $2, sigh…the Chinese in me screamed! But I ordered it, and when they came in the end, I had to get a bottle of water too…I figured it would cheaper than at the airport.
As I was waiting for my shuttle at the airport, my little carry-on luggage handle broke. I am so sad, it’s been with me through so many trips! I need a new one though, because I need to be able to drag it through the airport! I was struggling to carry it around while dragging my other big luggage. Sigh…
The weather here in Philadelphia is so great. It’s cold, but not freezing. I brought a special wool coat for this trip and was afraid it would be too heavy for the weather. Well, I got to the hotel, set my items down and rested for a bit. I only have two other complaints about my hotel, first is that they set me in the last room of the floor so I have a long walk to my room. Also, they don’t have a fridge! Why oh why! I think fridges should be required in all hotel rooms, and I like to have cold water everday…so I have to get cold ice I guess. But anyway, after my rest I set off to the streets in my coat over a pair of jeans, it looked quite chic I must say! J And well, my clothes were perfect. I felt completely comfortable as I walked around. The wind chill hitting my face was just…heavenly. Gosh, I love cold weather so much, I definitely live in the wrong place. But I love Hawaii so much, the people are the best so I can never leave. What a dilemma! I need to be rich so I can live in Hawaii and vacation in cold places for extended periods.
My hotel is located in Society Hill so it’s located in the Historical district. It’s GORGEOUS. At first, I just walked around near my hotel. I reached a little souvenir shop and bought a bunch of postcards both from Philadelphia and New York! So I’m all set! I’ll be writing them soon. Then as I kept walking, I would keep spotting beautiful buildings which lead me that way. A lot of historical buildings and the neighborhood housing are a dream. All beautiful brownstones, great structures and design. I wish I could live there! There was also a bunch of horse-drawn carriages all over the place, very nice! Anyway, needless to say, I got lost quite a few times. Hahaha how sad. What’s funny is, at the souvenir shop, the lady was extremely nice. She gave me a nice map and told me to go to all these places tomorrow…I totally got lost and think I found all the places she talked about. -_- I did ask a few individuals to find my way and the locals I did ask were very friendly! I was getting a bit worried because it was getting dark, but I finally found the hotel near 7 o’clock. I set back out to find the Chinese restaurant I saw in the beginning of my journey and found it! I got a noodle dish and two peking duck rolls…too much food but oh so good. I’ll show pictures afterwards.
I also found that we have a soda vending machine by the ice machine, and the soda is cheaper than outside. That’s good to know for my wallet and my carrying hands! J Anyhow, that’s about it. I thought I would have trouble adjusting to the change in hours but I think the long plane rides helped in that. I slept a little past 8…and now I’m up again. It’s about 2:30 am because I woke up…but I’m going to fall back asleep soon. This is much more talking that I thought! I’ll upload pictures of today’s journey for you all! J
