This is actually the second time that I'm attempting to enter today's blog. The first time, I had it all neatly typed in and when I went to click the Save button, the computer at the Internet access place locked up and I couldn't retreive all the work I'd done...technology is great, isn't it!?
Aujourd'hui, j'ai pris le train de Cannes vers Grasse (au nord de Cannes). Quand je suis arrivée à la gare, on m'a informé que le prochain train prévu a été annulé à cause des problèmes techniques. I had to wait almost two hours for the next scheduled train. I walked around the marché near the train station and bought a pain au chocolat. Jeanetta - the ones from Happy Baker were good, but, as you know, there's no comparison with the pain au chocolat (and croissants) here in France...they're soooo fresh and yummy!! :-)
Finalement, j'ai pris le train vers Grasse. Grasse is the world perfum capital. There are numerous old 'parfumeries' in Grasse; I visited Fragonard and Molinard - each with a free guided tour and a museum. It was very interesting to learn about the different methods used to make perfum and scented soaps. For an extra fee, you can design your own perfum.
Grasse is a complicated series of narrow streets going up and down the mountainside. Just when I thought that I had found my bearings and figured out the map, I got lost. Not to worry, it's these unexpected side trips that make travelling interesting. I ended up in a part of town with beautiful old homes and perfectly manicured gardens. The views of the town and station below were terrific.
I didn't realize until the end of the day that today was Canada Day - I hope it was a good day for everyone back home.
I'll have to upload some pics later, as I have to go now.
